Harris Alumni Stormzy joins students for A Level Results Day

Former Harris student and BRIT award-winning musician Stormzy joined students from across the Harris Federation Sixth Form as they received their A Level results.

He spent the morning at Harris City Academy Crystal Palace, where he congratulated students on their results and discussed their future plans. He also enjoyed reminiscing with his former teachers about his years as a student at Harris Academy South Norwood, including with his English teacher Claudette Bergin, who is now Principal of Harris Invictus Academy Croydon.

Stormzy used the occasion to launch ‘The Stormzy Scholarship’, a brand new scheme in partnership with the University of Cambridge which will see two British black students provided with financial support during their degree courses for 2018 entrees and a further two for 2019 entries.

He told the assembled press:

“I loved learning, I loved studying – my school shaped me to be who I am today”.

Two Sixth Formers were interviewed alongside Stormzy for BBC Breakfast – Julia from Harris City Academy Crystal Palace, who is heading to Cambridge to study Human, Social and Political Sciences, and Daniel from Harris Academy South Norwood, who will be beginning an apprenticeship in catering.

In total across the Federation, 24 students will be heading to Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard.
