Harris Academy Morden students attend one-of-a-kind trip to the Royal Albert Hall
In October, Year 10 Catering students from Harris Academy Morden were given the unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of the Catering services of London's Royal Albert Hall. From up in ‘the gods’ down to the loading bay, students explored every inch of the venue, seeing areas the public never usually get access to.
The Royal Albert Hall set up this visit specifically for Harris Academy Morden. Schools usually take music students for visits, but the Royal Albert Hall were keen to show young people the hospitality services they have to offer. As a result of today’s success, they will hopefully roll out this program so other schools and students can benefit.
Students heard all about the different dining and events spaces, from intimate meals for 2 in a private box, to venue takeovers for 2,000 diners. We visited the casual café, walked through the curiosities bar, along to the more formal Italian restaurant ‘Verdi’ to the Michelin starred ‘Coda’. A Q&A session was then held with the Head Chef of The Elgar Room restaurant and events space, Assistant Bars Manager and Events Managers.
Finally, students were then invited to see the Royal Box, an area of the Royal Albert Hall that most of the general public won't ever get the chance to see - the students even had a chance to look around the Royal Retiring Room.
This one-of-a-kind opportunity would not be possible without the support of the Royal Albert Hall and their ability to offer our students these rare and unique opportunities.
