One skill we are keen to develop in our students is public speaking and confidence to talk about their chosen subject. In our first official meeting with the new HSA Year 12 cohort, we introduced specific interview skills by watching video segments of mock interviews recently run by the HEA team, after which scholars critiqued the candidate’s performance, drawing on the session’s advice about how to handle interview questions.  We then took them through key talking points to help develop their understanding. Although their university application season is not for another year, we recognise the importance of starting early and giving them as many opportunities to practice as we can.  This session fed in nicely to our December sessions on Zero Gravity with Dr Matthew Williams from Jesus College, Oxford University.
