Y12 Harris Experience Advanced - Cambridge Lumsden Society Dinner
We were honoured to have been invited to Emmanuel College, Cambridge's annual Lumsden Society's inaugral dinner on Thursday the 13th of March.
Named to honour Vincent Lumsden (Emmanuel, 1952), a Jamaican Cambridge Blue, first-class international cricketer and agronomist, the society was co-founded by Harris alumnus and current Cambridge undergraduate Shea Williams to spotlight Afro-Caribbean educational achievement.
Our students were invited to pre-dinner refreshments in the Old Library of Emmanuel College where they had the opportunity to meet current students and fellows, as well as peers at other Harris schools and Amos Bursary winners from across London.
The Master of Emmanuel College, Douglas Chalmers, marked the occasion with a speech, before attendees assembled for a specially prepared formal hall menu which featured Afro-Caribbean staples such as plantain and ginger puddings.
Dinner was followed by a rousing speech by social anthropologist and Windrush Campaigner Carol Brown-Leonardi, and the evening came to a close when Mr Chalmers said grace in Latin.
All attendees had an enjoyable and illuminating evening and we look forward to expanding our links with leading educational institutions and our alumni network.
